Truck Tyre Installation

HI, I’m David, and I run Autotreads Onehunga , your go-to crew for truck tyres in Auckland, truck wheel alignments (to 6 tons), tyre repairs, and everything else that keeps your rig rolling and your customers happy.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Another tyre shop. Wonderful.”  About as exciting as watching the Warriors lose another semi-final, right? But bear with me; we’ve been doing this since 1978 and have probably come across most things before.

When your truck goes down, everything goes down. Your schedule, your reputation, your income, and quite possibly your sanity. We’ve been in this game long enough to know that the bloke sitting on the side of the Southern Motorway at 6am with a blown steer tyre doesn’t need a sales pitch. He needs someone who picks up the phone when it rings, knows what they’re doing, and gets that truck back on the road.

That’s us. That’s what we do.

We’ve been serving truck operators, fleet managers, courier drivers, and owner-operators right here out of Onehunga for years. If you’ve ever driven through Onehunga’s busy roads and thought, “I wonder who keeps all these trucks running”,  well, now you know.

Truck Tyres in Auckland,  The Full Picture

Let’s talk rubber. Not the cheap imported stuff that wears out before you’ve hit Pukekohe and back;  the real deal. Quality truck tyres sourced from brands that actually perform under New Zealand conditions, whether you’re doing urban deliveries around Penrose and Mt Wellington or hauling freight down State Highway 1 to Hamilton.

We supply a comprehensive range of truck tyres across All Position, Steer, Drive, and Trailer tyres, and we know that what works for a city delivery truck is completely different from what you need on a long-haul  doing Auckland-to-Wellington, or a building supplies truck that is having to negotiate rough terrain at a big construction site. There’s no one-size-fits-all in this game, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either lazy or selling you something.

When you come to us for truck tyres, we’ll assess your fleet’s needs, talk through your typical routes and load profiles, and recommend the right tyre for the job. Not the most expensive one. The right one. There’s a difference, and we think you deserve to know it.  So we won’t always give you some light weight solution on the spot; we may want to come back to you in an email with properly considered solutions and options.

Truck Tyre Repair,  Because New Isn’t Always the Answer

Let’s be honest,  a full tyre replacement isn’t always what the situation calls for. Sometimes you’ve got a nail in a drive tyre, a slow leak you can’t quite find, or a sidewall situation that needs a professional eye before anyone makes a call.

That’s where our truck tyre repair service comes in.

We do a thorough inspection first,  none of this “she’ll be right, we’ll patch it and send you on your way” attitude. Our team assesses the damage properly, checks the structural integrity of the casing, and then tells you straight: repair or replace. No pressure (excuse the pun). No upsell. Just an honest read of the situation.

Truck tyre repair done properly can save you serious money over the course of a year, especially if you’re running a large fleet. The key word there is properly. A dodgy repair on a steer tyre is not something you want to discover at 100kph on the Northwestern Motorway. We don’t do dodgy.

Heavy Truck Tyre Repairs NZ,  We Handle the Big Stuff

We’re not talking only about Sprinter vans, light commercials and 25-seat tour buses here (though we look after plenty of them). We work on heavy transport The Semi-trailers, B-trains, tipper trucks, concrete mixers, refrigerated units. The kind of vehicles where a tyre failure isn’t just an inconvenience;  it’s a genuine safety event.

Heavy truck tyre repairs in NZ require a different level of skill, equipment, and frankly, nerve. The tyres are huge and heavy by normal standards, the pressures are high and the stakes are real. Our team is fully equipped and properly trained to handle heavy truck work safely and efficiently.

We’re also set up for on-site and roadside assistance in the Auckland region, because sometimes your heavy unit isn’t exactly easy to bring to us, and we get that. One call and we’ll get someone out to you.  And if you have a problem 340 km from your Auckland base, a call to us sets in train a shout out to our partners down the line so that someone can get to you in a timely manner.

Truck Wheel Alignment,  The Thing Everyone Ignores Until It’s Too Late

If I had a dollar for every truck operator who came to us complaining about uneven tyre wear, and the cause turned out to be alignment that hadn’t been checked since the Highlanders last won the Super Rugby title, I’d be retired (excuse the pun) in Waiheke by now.

Truck wheel alignment is one of those things that doesn’t hurt until it really hurts. Misaligned wheels put extra stress on your steering components, make steering harder and/or less accurate, and increases your fuel consumption. And that’s before we include chewing through tyres at an alarming rate.

None of those things are good for your bottom line.

If you’ve been searching “truck wheel alignment near me” and your truck is under 6 tons, come and talk to us.  We’ll check it, correct it, document it, and send you on your way knowing your truck is tracking straight and true. Your tyres will thank you. So will your wallet.  And what if your truck is over 6 tons?  We have an arrangement with a team who can take the really big rigs.  It’s almost always cheaper for you to go to them through us than for you to turn up there as a random walk-in, paying full retail rates.

Truck Tyres Onehunga,  Right Here, Right Now

We’re proud to call Onehunga home. It’s one of Auckland’s great working suburbs,  full of hardworking people, real businesses, and the kind of no-nonsense attitude that suits a tyre shop just fine. We’re close to the motorways, and right in the thick of where Auckland’s commercial transport action happens.  I haven’t counted exactly, but typically we would have trucks going past our door in Neilson Street in the 1,000s per day.

Our location makes us genuinely convenient for operators running routes through Mangere, Penrose, Mt Wellington, Māngere Bridge, Hillsborough, Otahuhu, and across to East Tamaki’s industrial estates. We know these roads. We know what they do to tyres. And we know how to keep your fleet moving through them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What brands of truck tyres do you stock?

We deal with a strong range of quality truck tyre brands suited to New Zealand conditions, including options across commercial, highway, and off-road categories. We stock both premium and value-tier options, because we know that not every operator has the same budget,  but everyone deserves a safe, reliable tyre. When you call us, we’ll talk through what you’re running and what you need, and we’ll recommend accordingly. No push, no pressure.

Can you come to me for a truck tyre repair in Auckland?

Yes,  for many situations, particularly fleet work at your yard, we offer mobile and on-site tyre services across the Auckland region. If your truck is stuck on the side of the road or sitting at your depot with a flat, give us a call and we’ll work out the fastest way to get it sorted.

How do I know if I need a truck tyre replacement or just a repair?

That’s exactly the kind of question we love, because the answer depends on a proper inspection,  not a guess. Factors like the location of the damage, the depth of the penetration, the age and condition of the casing, and whether it’s a steer tyre or a trailer tyre all play a role. As a general rule: damage to the sidewall usually means replacement; punctures to the tread area can often be repaired safely. We’ll always give you an honest assessment and explain our reasoning. No surprises.

How often should truck wheel alignment be checked?

For most commercial truck operators, we recommend checking alignment every 50,000–80,000 kilometres, or whenever you notice uneven tyre wear, your vehicle pulling to one side, or increased fuel consumption that you can’t otherwise explain. If you’ve hit a serious pothole (and, as you would well know,  there are a few beauties around Auckland), it’s worth getting a check sooner. Misalignment is a silent budget-killer,  catching it early pays for itself several times over.

Do you service heavy trucks and semi-trailers, not just light commercials?

Absolutely.  Whether it’s a single tyre issue or a full fleet inspection and fitment job, we have the equipment, the experience, and the team to handle it properly and safely.  Our jacks are rated to 30 tons, which is usually enough to lift one corner or end of a truck!

How quickly can you fit us in?

We know downtime costs money, so we do our absolute best to turn around bookings fast. For urgent repairs, give us a call and we’ll do everything we can to get you. If we are too committed just then, we can call upon our partners to sort you out (as we do for them when they need the help).  For scheduled fitments and alignments, we’ll find a time that works around your operation so you’re not sitting around waiting any longer than necessary. We’re a tyre shop, not a government department,  we value your time.

What’s the difference between steer, drive, and trailer tyres?

Great question, and an important one. Steer tyres sit on your front axle and are responsible for handling, steering response, and fuel efficiency.  Ideally, this is where you prioritise your investment in tyres. Drive tyres sit on your powered rear axles and need to provide traction and durability under load. Trailer tyres need to handle the weight and heat generated by trailing loads over long distances.

Many trucks use All Position tyres.  While these can go on every axel, they are not optimised for any position.  They are a compromise.  All else being equal, a drive tyre will perform better on a drive axel then an all position tyre, for example.  In some sizes it can be very hard to find all tyres of drive, steer, all position and trailer but  when you come to us, we can discuss the options for your situation.  Running the wrong tyre in the wrong position can be costly, and we’re here to help you save money..

Can you help with fleet accounts and regular servicing schedules?

Yes,  we work with fleet operators and we’re happy to set up account arrangements for regular customers. Whether you’ve got two trucks or twenty, having a reliable tyre partner who knows your fleet and can keep your vehicles compliant and rolling is worth its weight in gold. Get in touch and we’ll have a yarn about what works best for you.

Right Then,  Here’s What Happens Next

You’ve read this far, which means one of two things: either you’ve got a tyre problem that needs solving, or you’re smart enough to get your truck tyre situation sorted before it becomes a tyre problem. Either way, you’re our kind of person.

Give us a call.  We can email you an account form and get you set up. Whether you need truck tyres in Onehunga, a wheel alignment check before a big run, a mobile repair out on the road, or you want to start with us doing an assessment of a fleet, getting an account with us is your starting point.  We’re ready to help.

We’re not the flashiest business in Auckland. We don’t have a celebrity ambassador or a jingle that gets stuck in your head. What we do have is a team that knows trucks, knows tyres, and genuinely cares about getting you back on the road safely and quickly.

Because when your truck runs well, your business runs well. And that matters.

Van Tyres For Safety And Grip

truck tyres service at autotreads onehunga

One of the issues that face many tyres for delivery vans, and it’s something vans in particular are prone to, is the lack of weight on the rear tyres when the van is unloaded.  This can make it very difficult to get traction, especially in the wet.  Many people tell us stories of trying to move off from an intersection in the wet, on an upward slope, and being unable to go forward.

Perhaps of all kinds of vehicles, light commercial tyres on vans need great grip on the rear tyres.

The Right Tyres For Every Van

At Autotreads, we stock a wide range of quality van tyres for every budget.  Increase your safety and fuel economy with commercial grade van tyres. Whether you’re driving a work van, delivery van, or family van, we’ll help you find the right fit for your budget.

Why Choose Premium Van Tyres?

While a budget tyre might be cheaper upfront, premium tyres usually outlast budget tyres by tens of thousands of kilometres. That means fewer replacements, you get better value for money and more confidence driving on the road.

Better quality tyres deliver:

  • Better grip on wet roads
  • Longer tread life
  • Smoother and quieter rides
  • Greater care for your cargo
